Wireless Planning and Coordination

Who is WPC?

The Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) Wing under the Ministry of Communication was formed in 1952. This is comprised of the National Radio Regulatory Authority mandated with Frequency Spectrum Management. It includes the licensing ad attending to the wants of every wireless user (private and government) in the country. This body gives out the license to establish, maintain, and operates wireless stations. It also offers all the users with the newest details linked to this Wing.

Before the importation of any wireless gadget in India that operates in the de-licenses frequency band, an Equipment Type Approval (ETA) approval from the WPC must be gotten. This approval is needed for goods such as mobile phones, RFID, Wi-Fi technology, Bluetooth gadgets, and many others.

For a product to be certified by the ETA or de-licensed frequency band gadgets, there needs to be an exhaustive report from a well-known laboratory of the equipment for evaluation by WPC.

Under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is the Wireless Planning & Coordination department formed in 1952. This body acts as the Government of India’s national radio regulatory apex body. Its roles include regulating, planning, and managing the Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum restricted resources and linked satellite orbits. This includes the licensing of wireless stations across the nation under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1993 (IWTA), statutory obligations as well as the Indian Telegraph Act 1885 (ITA 1885). Moreover, it promotes the licensing plus other functions in the management of both government and private users.

Products that incorporate wireless, radio of both functionalities that are imported or manufactured in India should come with an Equipment Type Approval certificate from the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) wing under the Ministry of Communication’s and Information Technology. It includes any goods with receivers, small digital radios, transmitters, transceivers, Bluetooth, radio frequency identification (RFID) readers and tags, as well as wireless mouse and keypads. Moreover, it covers wireless home appliances, remote key for entry, wireless remotes, wireless music players, wireless earplugs or headphones, mobile phones, wireless car radio, wireless water heaters, wireless home appliances, and other radio frequency modules.
